The Daily Mile is simple and free and gets children out of the classroom for fifteen minutes to run or jog, at their own pace, with their classmates, making them fitter, healthier, and more able to concentrate in the classroom.

At Marden, this is something we as a school (children and staff alike) relish and it has been great to see the children enjoying their Daily Miles this academic year.

In a normal week, children will compete the ‘Daily’ Mile a minimum of three times, which is of course in addition to their two hour long PE sessions.

In January, the children got involved with the Mental Health Mission within their Daily Miles. As the name suggests, all has been designed to reflect the messaging and motivation around Red January and show just how important regular physical activity can be for our mental health. In class, children were looking to complete as close to 12 tasks throughout January,  with these tasks being focused on the importance of talking, social inclusion, and small acts of kindness.

Please feel free to talk to your children about anything related to their Daily Miles, encourage them to carry them on at home, and together explore how we can look after not only our own mental and physical health, but also the mental and physical health of those around us.
