Competitions

Here at Marden, we aim to provide a high-quality curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport. Below, you will find the results and achievements of our various teams.

Tuesday 8th March: St Georges Vs Marden

This week saw the KS2 football team travel away to St George’s Primary School in the next round of the cup. Unfortunately, despite a valiant effort, the team lost 5-2 having come up against a very strong team. Having battled hard throughout the game, St George’s scored 3 unanswered goals as the game made its way to a close. The children showed excellent professionalism and composure in the face of some interesting decisions and were very gracious in defeat. They also enjoyed using the minibus to travel there – thank you to Mr Dix for driving this.

1st February 2022: Marden Vs Ditton

On Tuesday 1st of February 2022, we played in a football match against Ditton Junior School. We ended up winning 6-1, with Ollie, Josh and Louis on the scoresheet. Amazingly, we scored in the 5th second of the match after tackling our opposition from a kick-off. Daniel made an excellent debut for the team and Albert saved one shot but couldn’t get his hand on the other, which equated to them scoring their first and only goal of the match. Thank you to Mr De-Keyzer for once again coaching us and Mr Dix for yet again refereeing it.

27th January 2022: Marden Vs Oaks

On Thursday the 27th of January 2022, we played in a football match against Oaks Primary Academy. The end score was a comfortable 10-0 victory after Ollie scored 5 goals, Josh scored 1, Kacper scored 2 and Louis scored 2, with a penalty save by Albert – his second of the season – and 7 assists from Samuel. Thank you to Mr De-Keyzer for coaching us, Mr Dix for refereeing and all of the parents for supporting us.

Friday 26th November 2021: Tiger Vs Marden

On Friday, Marden travelled for their first away fixture of the year against Tiger Primary School. The game was tough and the team came up against a strong opposition who made them work incredibly hard. After going 1-0 up, Marden were pegged back to 1-1, before again grabbing the lead to make it 2-1 at half time. Straight after the break, Tiger scored a spectacular goal that Albert could do little about. This seemed to be the spark Marden needed. Having worked hard all game with little reward, Ollie began to break free and run the defence into the ground. The work rate of the team led to them picking up 4 second half goals and eventually running out 6-2 winners. Congratulations on another good win!

Friday 19th November 2021: Marden Vs Coxheath

Friday 19th November saw the long awaited return of competitive sport to Marden Primary Academy with the visit of Coxheath KS2 football team in the 1st round of the cup. It’s safe to say, it was definitely worth the wait!

From the moment the game started, the team worked together, passing their way through the opposition and creating numerous openings. Chances came and went in the opening 5 minutes before the deadlock was eventually broken by Marden. This dominance led to a 4-0 half time score. In the second half, Coxheath came back strong, showing excellent resilience, but Marden stuck to their game plan and eventually ran out 6-1 winners.

KS1 Football

February 2022: Marden Vs St Georges

We followed up our Greenfields game with a home game against St Georges the day after, and it was already clear how much the children had learnt from the previous game. It was a much closer game with chances aplenty for both sides. However, St Georges were just more clinical and ended up 3-0 winners. The children should take massive credit though, because they fought from start to finish, looked more dangerous, and had clearly learnt from the day before. It is very exciting to see how we do in our upcoming games in the next module with further improvement. Player of the match goes to Lucia for a superb effort throughout the game, persisting and tackling wherever she could.

February 2022: Marden Vs Greenfields

Our first KS1 football match in Marden’s recent history was a really enjoyable experience for all the children involved, many who were playing a competitive football match for the first time. Greenfields were a very good side who ran out deserved 9-0 winners, but this was always going to be a learning curve for many. With continual practise and match experience, this team will improve dramatically, and all should be proud of how they played. Player of the match goes to Finley for some fantastic saves and goalkeeping exploits despite the scoreline.

KS2 Netball

Tuesday 30th November 2021: West Borough Vs Marden

On Tuesday, our team of netballers travelled to West Borough Primary for our first fixture of the year. This was the team’s first game together and for many, their first experience of playing competitive netball.

Resolute defence and some fantastic attacking flair as well as clinical shooting, culminated in the team winning 18-2! A resounding victory – well played, team!

Thursday 3rd February 2022: Dulwich Prep Hockey Tournament

On Thursday 3rd February 2022, a team of Year 3 and 4 pupils travelled to Dulwich Prep School for a friendly hockey tournament. Having been expertly coached by Mrs Payne-Cook, the team put in a brilliant display, winning 3 games and losing 1. Individual awards were given out for:

  • Most valuable player – Connie
  • Most improved player – Annabella
  • Sportsmanship – Nellie

The awards were tough to choose and any of the players could have received one. They represented the academy impeccably and it was a pleasure to take them. Well done to all involved.
